All about maths

Today we did maths and we were learning to use a range of strategies to solve a given problem.
Our first one was: Tumaru has twenty seven lollies, he buys eighteen more and then eats fourteen. How many lollies does Tumaru have left?

Here are the strategies we used:
20+10=30
7+8=15
30+15=45
45-14=31

18-14=4
4+32=36
36-5=31

27+18=45
45-14=31

That was the first problem. This was the next one: Levron had thirty four trading cards. He played Dayton and lost twelve. Then he played Tanginoa and won twenty six. How many trading cards does Levron have now?

Here are the strategies we used:
34-12=22
22+26=48

30-10=20
4-2=2
22+20=42
42+6=48

34-12+26=48

34+26=60
60-10=50
50-2=48

Because we were able to use a range of strategies to solve each problem we were able to achieve our learning intention.

Waiheke Trip

Thursday 6 March

WALT write a recount in the correct order

Waiheke Trip

On Monday most of the year 6's went to Waiheke.

On the trip they had to go on a bus to the ferry terminal because they were going on a ferry. When they were on the ferry the year 6 students thought it was so cool because the sea was beautiful and they could see Rangitoto.

After that they went on a double decker bus to the beach so they could pick up rubbish.

Lastly they went back on the ferry which took them back to Half Moon Bay. From there they caught the bus and arrived back at school.

All the year 6 students had a great day.
