Playgrounds at school

I think playgrounds should be allowed at school.

First of all when children are playing on the playground they are too busy having fun. If they are too busy having fun they won't fight.

Secondly, children will be fit because they are playing on the playground. This means they won't become obese in the future.

Lastly, playgrounds are really awesome. They will keep kids happy.

These are my 3 reasons playgrounds should be allowed at school.

Swimming Pool Fun!

It is a really hot sunny Saturday afternoon. I am at Parakai Springs with my family.

I can see

I can see people splashing around in the water. I see swimmers doing lots and lots of laps. The water glistens like diamonds. The lifeguards watch like a falcon stalks its prey.

I can smell

The really strong smell of chlorine lingers around the pool. I can smell sunscreen on lots of people. The really nice aroma of soap and shampoo fills the bathroom as it floats from the shower.

I can hear

The lifeguard shouts at the people, "Stop Running!"The sprinkling sound of the shower is common near the bathroom. I hear people chatting away like old women. I hear cannonballs and dives, splashes and people munching and crunching on tasty food.

I am thinking

Should i do a bomb? What is for lunch? When will we go home? All theses thoughts wonder my mind like travellers.

I am having so much fun, I hope it will never end!

Komodo Dragon

Komodo dragons are a reptile, also known as the Komodo Monitor. It is the largest species of lizard ever found.

Komodo Dragons have a rough sandpaper like skin. Its four stumpy legs help it sprint after its prey. Their teeth are long and thick. Its muscular tail helps it balance when it is moving.The claws of a Komodo Dragon are curved so it can grip on to the ground.

Thousands or maybe millions of years ago, Komodo dragons used to live in Australia but they died out. Nowadays, if you want to  find Komodo dragons you have to travel to the small island of Borneo. If you want to find Komodo dragons somewhere else you may be lucky to find them at the zoo.

Komodo dragons kill prey with bacteria. When they eat, bits of flesh are left in their teeth and rots leaving bacteria in their mouth. If a Komodo dragons prey survives it will die later on due to an infection in its wound. Its claws grip onto flesh which helps Komodo dragons to tackle its prey to the ground.

I think Komodo dragons are fascinating but I'm glad they don't live in New Zealand.

How a Toaster Works

A toaster is a machine that turns bread into toast.

 Have you ever wondered how a toaster works?

First  you put 4 pieces of bread into the toaster.

Put the plug in the wall and then you switch it on.

Push the lever down and wait.Once the toast pops up take them out and put them on the plate.

Now you know how a toaster machine works and you can make your own toast at home!

Egyptian Mummies

In Egyptian times they preserved  dead people and animals by mummifying them.

Have you ever wondered how  a mummy is made?

First of all they wash the body in a tent, then they remove all the organs and put them into jars.

Next a person would pull the brain out through the nose.

They filled the body with rags or sawdust then buried them for 40 days so that they could dry.

After 40 days  they dug up the body then rub the skin with oils and jewelry was put on the body.

They wrap the body, then put charms on it so the body would be protected from evil.

They put a wooden mask on the head so the soul could recognise the body when it returned.

Finally they put the body in a coffin, then put the coffin a tomb for eternity.

Now thousands and millions of years later people are discovering them and learning what they
looked like and how they lived.

Buddy Blogging

Friday 6th June

This afternoon half of room 18 went to room 5 and half of room 5 went to room 18. The students of room 18 are becoming super bloggers so we got together with room 5 to teach them how to leave comments on other classes blogs. This weeks class blog was room 15, it was fun looking at what they have been doing in their class. Room 5 students listened really well but they will still need lots of help and support!
